Issue #100: An important Message for Dads this Father’s Day

It’s Father’s Day, and you’re probably getting a bunch of emails from brands telling you how much your father would love a new set of golf clubs, an LED flashlight, or a new coffee mug.

We’re not going to do that here today.

Instead of talking about the best Father’s Day gifts to give your dad, we’re going to talk about the best gift you, as a father (applies to mothers too), can give your kids.

Can you guess what that is?

It’s radical health.

Because there is no greater gift we can give our kids than to show up every day as a radically healthy dad.

It’s giving them the gift of time with us.

And it sets an example that will shape how they live their lives, allowing them to enjoy radical health as well.

We’ve got a bunch of new dads here at Heart & Soil, and our Chief Research Officer Dillon is going to become one any day now.

Becoming a dad is one of the greatest adventures of a man’s life.

But it’s also a serious business.

Being in poor health when you aren’t a dad is a decision that impacts you, and you alone.

But being in poor health when you are a dad impacts your kids too.

Suddenly this radical health thing is far more serious.

My grandfather died of a heart attack at 60.

My uncle died of a heart attack at 60.

And my father would be on the exact same path if he hadn’t discovered an animal-based diet.

He’s 64. He’s on zero medications.

He just retired last week and my brother and I spent a week hiking in Italy with him.

He’s given me, my brother, and his five grandkids the greatest gift ever.

And there’s absolutely no way I’m not gonna give the same gift to my kids.

Having kids can make it harder to prioritize your health.

Believe me, I know. My three kids currently have chickenpox, which means I’ve gotten a total of 9 hours of sleep in the last three nights combined.

But I’m still eating my animal-based breakfast, sprinting on the assault bike, and getting my 10,000 steps in the sun every day.

Because you gotta do what you gotta do.

So happy Father’s Day to all the dads reading this!

We hope you have a wonderful day with your family and that you share some wonderful steaks together.

And remember that the greatest gift you can give yourself and your kids is radical health.

Luke and all the other dads here at Heart & Soil.
