Issue #15: 5 superfoods for radical health

Hey Radical Health Seekers 👋

This week in your Radical Health Newsletter:

  • Cockroach milk: superfood or superhype?
  • 5 actual superfoods you need to try;
  • And an animal-based blind-taste game for kids (and adults!)

Welcome to the radical world of superfoods

Okay, so full disclosure Heart & Soil tribe…

We cringe when we hear the word superfood.

Because if it isn’t a dark leafy green, it’s an Amazonian berry that spent two weeks fermenting in a capybara’s colon.

And get this. The latest “superfood” is cockroach milk.

Seriously.

No really, seriously.

Well at least it’s animal-based 😉

Superfoods?

More like superHYPE.

Now the good news is, unlike the tooth fairy, superfoods really do exist.

But you won’t find kale, raw cacao, or a glass of cockroach milk on our list…

Instead, you’ll find the oldest, most treasured foods of all time.

Yet in the modern world, these foods get about as much respect as shoes on a jujitsu mat.

Deemed more suited for dog chow…

And blamed for cancers and other chronic diseases.

But the power of these foods hasn’t been entirely forgotten.

Indigenous cultures like the Maasai and Inuit know what is up…

And go back 1 or 2 generations here in America, and you’ll find these foods on the dining tables of your great grandparents.

So without delay, let’s dig in 👇

5 superfoods for radical health

#1 Eggs

A single egg might only be about 75 calories, but you probably won’t find more nutrition in any other 75 calories.

Because an egg is a true nutrient miracle, containing everything needed to make life.

And according to this paper, there are even mystery nutrients in eggs we don’t yet know the function of.

Eggs are also cheap, easy to prepare, and taste great!

Whether you like yours raw, fried, poached, or scrambled, you can’t go wrong with 2 or 3 (or 6!) of them every day.

Quality matters, though… Always look for pasture-raised, corn and soy-free eggs if you can!

#2 Raw Milk

There is a vast difference between the pasteurized milk you buy in the store, and the fresh milk your great-great-grandparents enjoyed.

That milk was raw and unpasteurized, and in our opinion, is one of the very few things on this planet truly worthy of being called a “superfood.”

Because fresh raw milk contains friendly bacteria, living enzymes, immunoglobins, peptides, bioavailable vitamins, and minerals.

This means it’s incredibly nutritious…

It even has natural healing properties, which strengthen the immune system and improve allergic conditions.

Did we mention it’s also delicious? 😃

#3 Blood

Once upon a time, we were so connected to the animals that nourished us, that we were present when their blood was spilled.

And during these times, we saw blood for what it truly is: a precious lifeforce.

Blood is a powerful source of nutrition, and when you taste it for the first time, it becomes clear why…

It tastes irony, rich and sweet.

It’s nature’s most concentrated source of heme iron…

And loaded with B Vitamins, CoQ10, and Vitamin D.

Blood has always featured heavily in traditional cuisines worldwide…

And is still key in the diet of many indigenous peoples including the Maasai, and Inuit today.

Getting your hands on fresh, uncoagulated blood from a well-raised animal is not easy…

But thankfully, we’ve got you covered with our Lifeblood supplement, which contains the highest quality grass-fed & finished Whole Blood Extract.

#4 Bone Marrow

Bone marrow was one of the first superfoods our ancestors got hold of, by scavenging carcasses and breaking open the marrow bones.

Those early humans were bang on the money…

Because bone marrow is incredibly nutritious.

It’s loaded with essential fatty acids, adiponectin, alkylglycerols, growth factors, cytokines (intracellular signalling molecules), peptides and stem cells…

And the benefits of this superfood are extensive.

Bone Marrow nourishes and supports SO much in our bodies, including our gut health, immune health, skin, hair, and joints to name a few.

If you can get fresh marrow bones, it’s super easy to just bang them in the oven with a little salt…

But you’ll also get all the amazing benefits by making homemade bone broth or with our Bone Marrow & Liver supplement.

#5 Liver

We’ve saved the best for last…

Because liver is the most nutrient-dense food on the planet. Period.

And we don’t believe it’s optional for radical health…

We believe it’s essential.

Because just a few ounces are jam-packed with bioavailable retinol (the active form of vitamin A), vitamin B12, Zinc, Copper, Folate, Riboflavin and Iron…

And when you finally top up the tanks for these important nutrients, you will never want to be without liver again.

If you can get fresh liver from a source you trust, excellent!

But what’s amazing about our organ supplements is they deliver all the benefits of liver in a clean, convenient and taste-free capsule.

And the freeze-drying process ensures all nutrients are retained in their natural form with maximum bioavailability… so also excellent!

Whether you get your liver raw, cooked or freeze-dried, just be sure to get it!

Bone Marrow & Liver – the ultimate combo

“Bone Marrow & Liver is A GAME CHANGER.

Arguably, the two most important parts of an animal, they are not as easy to come by as our more popular muscle meat.

They also tend to taste like a walrus fart.

So… Heart & Soil, Dr. Saladino, thank you for providing an ESSENTIAL food that most of the population dislikes and making it palatable so everybody can use it. Very cool!”

David G – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Try the animal-based blind-taste game

This blind taste game is a fun way to introduce a variety of animal-based foods to kids (and adults!)…

Here’s how to play:

Sit them down at the dining table (or outside on the grass!) and blindfold them;

Arrange a variety of animal-based foods in front of them and guide them to each one, letting them taste and guess what it is;

We recommend starting with some approachable animal-based foods like ground beef, butter, cheese, fruit and honey…

But there’s always the option of including some superfoods like blood and liver!

Whatever you do, just have fun!

That’s all from us this weekend…

Stay Radical!
