Issue #139: Why Diets Fail (A Survival Story)

Everyone knows that if you want to lose weight, you just “eat less and move more”, right? Wrong.

This commonly accepted wisdom almost always fails in the long term.

Think about it from your body’s point of view.

When faced with a prolonged caloric deficit, your body will do everything it can to burn LESS calories, and hold on to body fat for as long as possible.

Survival is the name of the game. You see 15lbs of belly fat you want to lose, but your body sees 50,000+ calories that will help you survive a lean winter.

And if the ‘move more’ part involves chronic cardio with no resistance training, things will only get worse. Because any weight loss you experience will likely include a significant loss of muscle.

It’s not as easy or as simple as eating less, or fasting longer.

In fact, you might have to EAT MORE in order to increase your metabolism.

Yes, you may not lose weight as quickly as you desired, and yes, you may even gain weight in the short term…

But in the long term, you will feel better (energy, libido, mood, etc.), and your metabolism will increase.

Pair this with strategic movement (low-level resistance training, and high-intensity interval training), and your body will target fat loss and build or maintain muscle.

The conventional approach says fat loss should be a battle of willpower, where you push your health to the limits all in the name of losing fat. But a far better approach is to get healthy first and heal your metabolism.

That way, not only will you burn fat, but you’ll also build muscle, optimize your hormones, and feel great along the way. The journey will be more enjoyable, and the results will be so much better.

We’ve seen this work time and time again with real people in our community who were stuck in the same old diet cycle finally breaking through, like Chad and Janique:
